Samanak: A summer local Afghan dish

Samanak (or Samanu) is one of our local Afghan cuisines. We make this food in the summer at the top period of heat.

A mini – podcast By Ali and Yasin

What are the ingredients of this dish?

This dish is made from wheat. We put it in water for 20 to 25 days until it is about 30 to 40 centimeters and then chop it up and drain it. Then we separate the water and mix it with flour, walnuts, and sugar. We put it on the fire. Then from the night until the morning, we stir it until the water is gone and our food is ready.

Why do you share this food with your family?

Because making this food is one of our old traditions and is very blessed for us. We make this dish once a year.
