Finally, summer has arrived and fortunately, things are gradually getting back to normal, as you may know. Part of the population has been fully vaccinated and there is another group waiting for their vaccination. However, there are always people who are opposed and they don’t believe in vaccines or even in the existence of coronavirus. But our common point is that we all hope everything will be back to normal as soon as possible.
Summer trips have started. We can hear the sound of music from different places throughout the city and the sound of children laughing. We can see colourful balloons, have ice cream and juices with the taste of summer fruits. Everything is colourful, even people prefer to wear light-coloured clothes.
All this beauty inspired us to dedicate the 22nd issue of Migratory Birds to summer and to what it is like in our own countries. We share ideas on what to do during summer in Athens. Through an interview with two musicians, we show that where there is a will, there is a way. By expressing the difficulties that an unaccompanied minor faces in a foreign country, we want to say that being successful is not always easy, so don’t give up!
As always, we speak about peace, that is our wish for all people. And with peace as her message, a 3.5 metre-tall puppet doll, named Amal, which means “hope”, will travel from Syria to Europe. She will come to Greece at the end of August and you can find out more about her staying here on our pages.
Finally, you can quench your thirst from these hot days with the refreshing summer recipes that we suggest in this issue.
