When one hears the word Egypt, most of what comes to mind include The Pyramids, The Nile River, the deserts, etc. But the tourist attractions make up only 40% of the country’s entirety, and beyond all this, lies much more.
If the time is taken to explore Egypt fully, it becomes cleay, and beyond all this, lies much more. r that many areas differ greatly, compared to the tourist-heavy areas, because of the amount of trash, especially within the smaller villages. However, it is not the inhabitants’ fault, because there are simply no bins for the trash to go in. This needs to be solved.
A separate issue is the lack of rights for many Egyptian citizens. If a person wants to immigrate to another country, the process for getting their papers is extremely difficult, resulting in unfortunate situations where some native Egyptians end up being illegal immigrants in the country they want to move to. Additionally, testing for Egyptian children at the third-grade level is too hard, even for children who seem to be prepared.
Furthermore, water and electricity are a consistent issue. In some cases, people must pay their water bill for the entire month, but they have only had access to it sporadically. For some, the electricity stops daily for 4 or even 6 hours. While this situation prevails, there is the added issue that many people’s salary is not enough to support a family in terms of food, clothes, water, electricity, and life in general. Everything seems to be expensive, but poor quality. For example, the water has a strange taste and some of the food is not clean. The infrastructure also needs work, as the roads outside are not paved, so sand and dust become an issue, as well as the fact that there is no road system.
Although there are many disadvantages to living there, the family bonds and family quality time make it more enjoyable. I have happy memories of going up on the roof of my house with my cousins and having competitions, playing games, and telling scary stories. I wish the summer had lasted longer in Egypt because I was having fun with my family, instead of focusing on the negative aspects.
In conclusion, if you plan to visit Egypt, you can see the beautiful pyramids and tourist attractions, but you must be mindful of the other parts of the country that are not seen in the same light and have many people living in less-than-ideal situations. Nevertheless, on either side, the most important thing is to have fun with family and create memories to last a lifetime.
