The children of the Network spoke about the problems they noticed in their neighborhoods, their proposals for changes, their concerns about the attitudes and behaviors of the city’s residents and everything they would like to know about the mayoral candidates in a special debate.
The children welcomed with great joy the candidates, Mr. Vassilis Axiotis (represented Mr. Kostas Bakoyannis), Mr. Haris Doukas, Mr. Kostas Zachariadis, Ms. Kiki Menou (represented Mr. Kostas Papadakis) and Mr. Nikos Sofianos. The discussion was moderated by Fotini, a teenager and beneficiary of the Teenage Network and member of the editorial team of Migratory Birds. After Fotini read out the rules of the debate, the candidates took their turn answering the questions posed each time by a child.
There were three debate topics and they were titled as follows: Everyday Life in the City, Inclusion, and Learning about You. The children asked the candidates a total of twelve questions, touching on topics such as the creation of spaces for play and recreation, recycling, the protection of vulnerable groups, the provision of services to refugees and migrants to help them integrate more effectively in Athens and the combat against xenophobia and racism.
